Looming Problems for

Digital Scholarship in the Humanities:

• Most scholar-produced digital publications now in existence have finessed a significant difficulty by producing their own digital primary resources rather than basing their work on digital primary resources produced by libraries (or publishers);

• Libraries (and publishers) have finessed a different but equally significant problem, by dealing almost exclusively with digital surrogates, and by taking control of only those resources they produce.
