Problems With This Solution:
Scholarship:
- Innovation is risky
- Editing is out of fashion
- Coterie journals lack peer review and openness to new authors
- It is believed to be difficult to evaluate an individual
contribution to a collective work (but they manage to do it in the sciences)
Publishing:
- Innovation is risky
- Most journals are print-oriented in their workflow and
production process
- Very few publishers are outlets for electronic editions
Libraries:
- Don't necessarily have the digital primary resources that
scholars want
- Don't actually have much experience in collecting originally
digital scholarship
- Don't have experience working with authors, editing, doing peer
review, running fulfillment services, doing marketing, etc.
